MY EXPERIENCE

I'm Maggie! I'm a busy mom of 4 and a full-time student from Texas. I was a new mom when I was diagnosed with RMS back in 2012. When I'm not in class or studying, I'm juggling my kids' various extracurricular activities. I started KESIMPTA in 2021, and it has worked for my schedule!

Optimistic Outlook

When I was diagnosed in 2012, I wish someone would have told me to stay positive. RMS can feel different each day, so it can be frustrating not knowing what to expect. Someone once said RMS is like a “snowflake disease” since no 2 people experience it exactly the same. At first, I thought my life was over. I was a single, working mom, and I was so afraid. I missed my son's first steps and words and milestones, and I was basically just a bag of bones on the couch for a while. It wasn't fair to him to not have his mom there. I mean, I was there, but wasn't. But I changed my mindset to focus on optimism, and it has not only affected how I live and feel, but it has also benefited my family, too. Now I see what having an optimistic outlook has done for me, and I want others to feel the same, too.

Balancing It All

My lifestyle had a huge influence in choosing the right treatment for me. I have 4 children and have to juggle all their school and extracurricular activities. I’m also taking online courses to finish my college degree. I had given up on school when I got my diagnosis. But funny story… my mother literally pushed me in a wheelchair to get me to register at the school. I laugh about that to this day. Now, I may hold the record for longest time to get an associate degree, but I’m almost finished. With all the craziness in my lifestyle, getting KESIMPTA delivered to my home and being able to take it at home makes it the right choice for me. I do my injection and then go about my day.

Personal Support

The AlongsideTM KESIMPTA program has been a great part of my overall KESIMPTA experience. Having the same Coordinator, Nikki, call me every time who knows about me and what was going on is so nice. It feels kind of like talking to an old friend who is also there to help answer any questions. Nikki and the whole program make me feel more cared for and less of a number or statistic.

My Proudest Moment

I was really looking forward to walking across the stage at my college graduation. I couldn’t wait for my kids to watch. The most important thing for me is to be a strong role model for them, and for them to see that I finished what I started. I joke that this is the longest associate degree in history!
